Medical Assistant Student Requirements
You are here
Students entering the Medical Assistant program at Â鶹´«Ã½ (CWI) must fulfill the following requirements prior to beginning and as part of their training throughout the program.
While immunizations are not required to enroll at CWI or join the Medical Assistant program, some of our partner healthcare organizations may require them for clinical rotations or externships, which are necessary to complete the program. Efforts will be made to secure a placement for each student; however, a site that does not require immunizations cannot be guaranteed, which may delay or prevent completion of the program and may limit employment opportunities after graduation. CWI maintains an exemption process for medical conditions, disabilities, or religious beliefs, which are currently accepted by a number of partner organizations for the purposes of student placement.
- Proof of immunizations must be from a licensed physician, health department, or military service.
- Completion of immunizations will be tracked in Complio. See Compliance Tracking for details.
- Start your immunizations as soon as possible to ensure you have enough time to complete and submit them by the first day of class.
IMMUNIZATIONS
- Tuberculosis, negative
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- Tetanus (within the last 10 years)
- Hepatitis B (all three)
- Influenza (given between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1)
OPTIONAL
- COVID-19
Students are required to pass a background and 10-panel drug screening prior to starting the program.
- Completion of the background and drug screenings will be initiated and tracked in Complio. See Compliance Tracking for details.
- Background check times vary — start early to make sure your results are in by the first day of class.
Note: A criminal record may limit employment opportunities after graduation. While students with certain offenses may still complete the program, job placement is not guaranteed and will depend on the results of the background check.
Medical Assistant students provide documentation regarding the completion of their immunizations, background check, and drug screening through the American DataBank's online database, Complio*. This database allows students access, update, download, or print their Clinical Passport.
- A link to Complio will be sent to students via their CWI email address upon registering for Medical Assistant classes.

All students must provide a current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR and First Aid certification.
- Only AHA BLS Provider CPR and First Aid cards will be accepted. Other certifications or online courses will not be accepted.
